Terms of Service

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Jul ("the Platform"), an AI-powered book generation service operated by Jul's Publishing House ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using the Platform in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and capable of forming a legally binding contract to use Jul. By registering, you represent that you meet these requirements. Accounts registered on behalf of a business must be authorised by that business.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at julspublishinghouse@gmail.com if you suspect any unauthorised access. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. We may reject or deactivate accounts registered with disposable or temporary email addresses.

4. Platform Features

Jul provides the following AI-powered features, some of which are available only on certain subscription tiers:

• Book Generation — create full-length fiction and non-fiction books from a title, topic, or source material. Available in Quick Mode (wizard-based) and Studio Mode (project-based writing environment with section-level editing).
• Batch Generation — generate multiple books at once from a CSV or JSON file (Pro and Premium tiers only, with per-tier batch limits).
• AI Chat Assistant — a conversational writing assistant available within the Platform, subject to daily message limits that vary by tier.
• Cover & Image Generation — AI-generated book covers and inline illustrations created using third-party image generation services.
• KDP Metadata Generation — AI-generated Amazon KDP publishing metadata including BISAC codes, keywords, and marketing descriptions. These are suggestions only and are not guaranteed to comply with Amazon's requirements.
• Plagiarism Checking — originality analysis powered by third-party services (Studio Mode). Plagiarism scores are estimates, not legal guarantees of originality.
• Market Research — search and browse Amazon book data to inform your book's positioning (Pro and Premium tiers only).
• Author Personas — create custom author profiles with writing style preferences and samples to influence AI output.
• Source Material Upload — upload PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV files, or provide URLs as reference material for book generation (max 3 MB per file).
• Export Formats — download finished books as DOCX, PDF, or EPUB files.
• Custom Templates — upload custom DOCX templates for book formatting (Pro and Premium tiers only, max 3 MB).

We may add, modify, or remove features at any time. Feature availability and quotas differ by subscription tier.

5. AI-Generated Content — Disclaimer

Jul uses third-party AI models (including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google) to generate book content, and third-party image generation services (including Stability AI and Ideogram) to create cover art and inline illustrations. You acknowledge and agree that:

• AI-generated content — including text, images, metadata, and plagiarism scores — may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. We make no warranty as to its accuracy, fitness for purpose, or reliability.
• We do not guarantee that generated content is original, free from copyright infringement, or legally publishable. You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, and verifying all output before publication or distribution.
• The Platform may automatically apply style refinements to generated text (such as replacing commonly overused words and phrases). This post-processing is part of the generation pipeline.
• We are not liable for any legal, financial, reputational, or other consequences arising from the publication or use of AI-generated content produced by the Platform.
• Your book-generation prompts, source materials, and chat messages are transmitted to third-party AI providers. Refer to their respective privacy and data policies for how they handle this data.

6. Ownership of Generated Content

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you own the output (books, cover images, and related content) generated through your use of the Platform. We claim no ownership over your generated books. We do, however, retain all rights to the Platform itself — including its code, design, branding, and systems. Please note that the legal status of AI-generated content under copyright law varies by jurisdiction and is evolving. You are responsible for understanding the laws applicable to your use of the content.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Platform to:

• Generate content that is illegal, defamatory, hateful, obscene, or otherwise harmful.
• Infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of any third party.
• Circumvent usage quotas, rate limits, or tier restrictions imposed by the Platform.
• Reverse engineer, copy, or resell any part of the Platform without express written permission.
• Use automated scripts or bots to access the Platform outside of the features we provide.
• Attempt to compromise the security or integrity of the Platform or its users.
• Register accounts using disposable, temporary, or fraudulent email addresses.

Violation of these rules may result in immediate account suspension or termination without refund.

8. Subscriptions and Payments

Jul offers three paid subscription tiers — Basic, Pro, and Premium — available on monthly or annual billing cycles. All pricing is listed in USD. Payment is processed by our third-party payment provider, LemonSqueezy, and may be collected in the local currency equivalent at the prevailing exchange rate communicated to you at checkout.

• Activation. Subscriptions are activated upon successful payment confirmation via LemonSqueezy, or alternatively through a tier redemption code issued by us.
• Auto-Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle (monthly or annual) at the then-current price. You will be charged via the payment method on file with LemonSqueezy.
• Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Upon cancellation, your paid tier access continues until the end of the current billing period, after which your account is downgraded to the Free tier.
• No Refunds. Subscription fees are non-refundable. Once a billing cycle has been charged or a redemption code has been applied, no refunds will be issued.
• Price Changes. We reserve the right to change subscription pricing at any time with reasonable notice to existing subscribers. Price changes take effect at the start of the next billing cycle.
• Failed Payments. If a payment fails or is found to be fraudulent or reversed, we may suspend or downgrade your account.

9. API Keys (Bring Your Own Key)

Pro and Premium tier users are required to provide their own API keys from supported third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google). Your API keys are encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption and stored securely on our servers. You are solely responsible for the usage, costs, and rate limits incurred on your own API keys. We are not liable for any charges billed to you by third-party providers as a result of your use of the Platform. You may add, rotate, or remove your API keys at any time from your account settings.

10. Referral Programme

Jul provides a referral programme that allows you to invite others to join the Platform:

• Each user receives a unique referral code and shareable link.
• When a referred user registers and subsequently subscribes to a paid tier, the referrer receives three (3) bonus days added to their current subscription period. This reward is granted once per referred user.
• Referral rewards are non-transferable and have no cash value.
• We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the referral programme at any time without prior notice.
• Abuse of the referral system (including self-referrals or fraudulent sign-ups) may result in forfeiture of rewards and account suspension.

11. Advertising

Free and Basic tier users may see third-party advertisements displayed within the Platform, served by Google AdSense. Pro and Premium tier users do not see advertisements. By using the Platform on a Free or Basic tier, you consent to the display of such advertisements and acknowledge that Google AdSense may collect data and set cookies as described in Google's advertising privacy policy .

12. Availability and Service Changes

We strive to keep Jul available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Platform at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes. We are not liable for any loss arising from downtime or service changes.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Jul's Publishing House and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Platform. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the three (3) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jul's Publishing House, its operators, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Platform, your generated content, or your violation of these Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If changes are material, we will notify you by email. These Terms are published in English. If we provide translations for convenience, the English version governs in the event of any conflict.
